Medical Program in Uganda
Poverty is a factor that generates a social impact in Uganda, that’s why certain life styles affect the health of the population, which is why it is necessary to count with the support of volunteers who contribute their knowledge and assistance in health centers in communities inside Uganda. In consequence, we begin to develop a medical program where the volunteer will have the opportunity to lend its assistance in all activities that are carried out by staff of the healthcare center.
Volunteer Programs
Purpose
Improve the health conditions of this locality, as well as increase health care system and help prevent endemic diseases, which will help the medical staff of the health care center. This will help and serve as support in being able to control and respond more effectively to the population. Having more volunteers inside the program will cause more assistance to the medical staff; this is why your collaboration, participation and support is of vital importance to improve the health conditions of this rural population in Uganda.
Change
The change is in the difference, and the difference is generated giving your contribution and medical knowledge to this rural population in Uganda. Your service is essential for this program, providing assistance in all the areas of public health, working to promote health education which contributes to reducing illness and thus improve a change in society.
Action
This project is framed in the medical assistance to the rural population in Uganda, is for this reason that the volunteer must have solid knowledge and certificates attesting to its experience in the area of health. The volunteer must provide support to medical staff, and/or nurses who are checking out the patients and examine them. The volunteer may support doing activities such as patient record, supply medicines, give seminars on nutrition, health and social welfare. Additional to this, you will learn to interact with the medical staff by exchanging experiences and knowledge which will strengthen your learning staff.

Fort Portal has the name of a British commissioner,Sir Gerald Portal. A statue to commemorate Sir Gerald Portal is located in the main avenue of the city. The city is located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level. It has a population of 54,2475 (2014). THe city is going through changes to make it Uganda's touristic capital by 2040. Furthermore, alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, textiles, furniture, paper, soap, sweets, shoes and metal objects are manufactured in this city. Fort Portal is a mainly catholic city which is why you can find 19 parishes that belong to the Mbarara archdiocese that answers directly to the Vatican.
Fort Portal is a very important city for the tourism that arrives to the nearby National Reserve parks like: Virunga National Park, Queen Isabel National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. it is also important for the market of the region by providing products like: cotton, peanuts, sesame, corn, tobacco, oil seeds, coffee, tea, tropical fruits, several types of vegetables, leather, dairy products, meat, grains.

A Day as a Volunteer

Accomodation
The accommodation is the volunteer house, which offers comfortable rooms, in addition to the basic services to make your stay a pleasant one. The house has a person who’s available to clean and organize the house. However, each volunteer is responsible for maintaining their sleeping area in good order and cleanliness, as well as the maintenance and cleanliness of the other areas of the house.
Meals
We have all the necessities to offer volunteers a delicious and varied food menu. For breakfast we serve: eggs, bread, butter, jams; at lunch, there is a combination of fresh and delicious local and western food; for dinner there is a varied food menu with rice, puree, spaghetti with meatballs, macaroni. If the volunteer wants to eat outside the house, there are near restaurants and cafes. It should be noted that if the volunteer have a special diet, please communicate us in order to design a different food menu.
