Construction Project in Uganda

There are very poor and deteriorating rural communities in Uganda, that’s why collaboration is a fundamental part of this volunteer program, you’ll have the opportunity to help in construction or improvement of various infrastructures in the community, you can merge inside the community, serve, and collaborate on this project that will provide many benefits for the people of this community. Volunteer Programs

Purpose

The purpose of this volunteer program is to accomplish a project together with the community to strengthen the infrastructure, which will contribute to the development of this community in Uganda. This is a hands-on experience, especially during teamwork activities, which must be accompanied by enthusiasm, lots of energy and a positive attitude, that you will provide as you bring happiness to many people who really need it.

Change

Generate a great impact in the community through the improvement and construction of projects in the locality, which seeks to improve the quality of life of each individual in the community. The benefit is mutual for both the community and volunteers, since the volunteer has new knowledge of everyday life in Uganda and the satisfaction of having helped make a change in the life of these people.

Action

In Uganda you will be involved in projects such as: construction of schools, renewal of sport areas, painting, maintenance, building and construction to direct the course of the water inside the community, the construction of roads, water wells, and improving the infrastructure of houses and other projects. You will offer support to local workers in all construction activities, it’s not necessary to have construction experience, you only need to have the desire to help, the attitude to contribute and the energy to collaborate.

Fort Portal gets its name from the British commissioner Sir Gerald Portal. A statue to commemorate Sir Gerald Portal is located on the main avenue of the city. The city is located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level. It has a population of 54,2475 (2014). The city is going through changes to make it Uganda's touristic capital by 2040. Furthermore, alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, textiles, furniture, paper, soap, sweets, shoes and metal objects are manufactured in this city. Fort Portal is a mainly catholic city which is why you can find 19 parishes that belong to the Mbarara archdiocese that answers directly to the Vatican.  

Fort Portal is a very important city for tourists that come to the nearby National Reserve parks like: Virunga National Park, Queen Isabel National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. it is also important for the market of the region by providing products like: cotton, peanuts, sesame, corn, tobacco, oil seeds, coffee, tea, tropical fruits, several types of vegetables, leather, dairy products, meat, and grains.

Accomodation

The accommodation is the volunteer house, which offers comfortable rooms, in addition to basic services to make your stay a pleasant one. The house has a person who’s available to clean and organize. However, each volunteer is responsible for keeping their sleeping area clean and in good order, as well as the maintenance and cleanliness of the other areas of the house.
 

Meals

We have all the necessities to offer volunteers a delicious and varied food menu. For breakfast we serve: eggs, bread, butter, jams; at lunch, there is a combination of fresh and delicious local and western food; for dinner there is a varied food menu with rice, puree, spaghetti with meatballs, macaroni. If the volunteer wants to eat outside the house, there are near restaurants and cafes. It should be noted that if the volunteer have a special diet, please communicate us in order to design a different food menu.

Monkeys in Nkuruba Reserve

Excursion to Nkuruba Reserve

Enjoy 1 day excrusion in Nkuruba or “Monkey Place”, a nature reserve close to Kibale Forest, and its consist of a beautiful volcanic crater lake surrounded by forest, where you can have the chance to observe several troops of Black & White Colobus, Red Colobus and Vervet monkeys while you are hiking through the forest trails.
