Volunteer Programs

Purpose

Supporting lesson plans in Ecuadorian schools

Our volunteer program offers a powerful immersion in the culture of the country, in fact we are looking for volunteers who can assist the education system in order to help the children stay ahead and to develop processes of learning English as a second language. Your participation in this program will give you a the opportunity to get to know the children and youth; as well create new friendships with local people.

Change

Children in disadvantaged schools in Ecuador

The activities carried out by volunteers help to improve the skills of teachers in schools located in marginal areas. Proposing new teaching methods, establishing strong links with children and reinforcing classroom activities is the best way to help improve the system every day, every hour, every minute and every second of working, and the principal beneficiaries are children.

Action

Reading and storytelling with children

Volunteers will support in teaching English as a second language to children who are in elementary school and are between the ages of 5 and 12 years. In addition, you will help teachers to prepare classes and teaching materials. Participating in the program means that you will make a real difference for children during their classes by reinforcing their studies and providing individual attention in order to increase the confidence of the students while in the classroom. Finally, it is important to say that the most important activity is to promote group participation through interactive activities.

Location

Pichincha , Ecuador

Pichincha is located in the northern Andes region of Ecuador and it is the most important province because the national and provincial capital, Quito, has made it a focal point of Ecuadorian history and politics.

The Ecuadorian Andes has a fascinating mix of colonial heritage and indigenous culture, and is ideal for community service. Large, bustling cities with fine colonial districts contrast the lively, colorful, artisan and produce markets of indigenous communities.

But not many visitors see the underprivileged regions and communities of this region that are often unable to access good healthcare, education, technical advice, and other similar services. The Ecuador Volunteer Foundation seeks to address these issues and reach these underprivileged communities, through social, educational, community, and conservation projects, striving to support these communities in their efforts to improve their well-being.

Accomodation

The housing system with host families is an excellent opportunity for all volunteers who want to learn more about the lifestyle of the country. The rooms are individual and comfortable. The bathrooms have basic services and can be shared or private. Additionally almost all families have an area for washing clothes, otherwise you can go to a laundry service on weekends. We are sure you will feel at home.

Meals

Most of the host families’ offer volunteers a large variety of traditional dishes from Ecuador. However, there are families that prepare international dishes and special diets for vegetarians. Breakfasts generally include tea, coffee and / or chocolate, bread, jam, juice, fruit and eggs. Lunch and dinner have a very large variety of food like vegetable soups, creams, chicken, fish, and beef, and are always accompanied by rice or potatoes. Host families always have a water bottles, but we recommend volunteers have their own water bottle. You do not want to miss the Ecuadorian cuisine!
