FAQ

1. What is the best time of year to visit the Andes?

The Ecuadorian Andes can be visited all year round, but the best times are from June to September and December to February, when the weather is drier, and the hiking trails are in better condition. During these months, you will enjoy clear skies and pleasant temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities.

Yes, it is safe as long as you follow local recommendations and are accompanied by guides or project coordinators. Volunteer programs in the Andes collaborate directly with local communities, ensuring a safe and authentic experience. In addition, our community partners are responsible for facilitating the safest possible environment for volunteers.

Traveling alone or in a group depends on your preferences. If you’re traveling alone, you’ll quickly form bonds with community members. As a group, you will be able to share the experience from the beginning. Both approaches are safe and nurturing, and the programs are designed to integrate participants, regardless of whether they arrive alone or accompanied. We recommend that you apply on the predetermined dates of the programs so that you can match with other volunteers or put together your own group.

Programs are staffed by trained local coordinators to provide assistance at all times. In addition, projects and communities carry out constant safety training for their inhabitants, and clear protocols are established for emergency situations. The activities are carried out in previously evaluated areas and with the support of community guides.

Not necessarily. All our programs have highly trained coordinators with experience supporting international volunteers who don’t speak Spanish, and they will be there to help you communicate in any situation. However, having a basic understanding of the language—such as common phrases and essential vocabulary—is always appreciated, as it helps build connections with the local community and gain a deeper understanding of their culture.

Volunteer projects have a significant impact on environmental conservation and community development. In the cloud forest, efforts are focused on reforestation, wildlife monitoring and sustainable tourism, while in indigenous communities, the focus is on cultural preservation and economic strengthening through family enterprises and the education of children and young people. Each contribution contributes to local well-being and the protection of ecosystems.
